Natural Style

Aloha,
Here is another morning photo of a flower near the beach. The stark diversity in color stimulates our vision. Great writers cause their readers to "feel something" by using specific detail. How a writer does this is style. Let's write with this in mind today.
          Enjoy!

                    Ocean Ordeal

Batter the surf fight wind and wave
One more life left out there to save
As the sea rises above and beyond
Listening in the distance a faint swan song

Go out where the deep waters flow
Swim with dolphins watch the whales blow
See the sea turtles then a sea seal
If the sea survives its ocean ordeal

Get a little deeper in over your head
Vacate the comfort zone go out instead
The tropics will grant your favorite wish
See exotic swims of the last little fish

Objects of desires are good little deeds
Rip at the heart of invasive weeds
Endangered species will be freed by you
Capture the ocean then turn it back blue

Make a splash catch a wave
Go out and find something to save
Tender togetherness will have its greatest appeal
When the sea survives its ocean ordeal

                Hard Cold Truth

Not a place known for its scenic view
A revolving door with the devoted few
Inspiration arrives and aspiration goes out
So many tears leaves so little doubt
Everybody knows they're packing the juice
When a little soft lie brings the hard cold truth

Little soft lies have a life of their own
Painted in a world and blemished to the bone
Somebody nudge me away from the darkness
Far far away from this little Loch Ness
Wise me up far beyond my youth
Little soft lie bring the hard cold truth

A little soft lie is never easy to see
But they pack a punch eventually
You can bet your heart it'll be on time
That hard cold truth coming down the line

Hard cold truth you wait and see
Hard cold truth eventually
Hard cold truth be on time
Little soft lie bring it down the line

Design Cool

Aloha,
Although this photo says "New York," it is actually shot a short distance from Waikiki Beach. This simple idea reveals meaning and creates emotion.
Writers express the natural order of life experienced by their characters. In fiction, this is an imposed scheme and is known as plot. Let's write thinking about this idea today.               Enjoy!

                   Shark Diver

Ask me now why they do it and how
The answer comes quick a simple slip
Into the deep with a promise to keep
Ocean chills simple thrills force of will

As deep you go the ocean knows your guise
Kills the fun kill it before it multiplies
Soon staring eyes make them realize
It is they who are sized for the next surprise

It's true some imbue the folly ends somehow
But not here not now this vacation must endo
A taste for the stew goes the chum for slaughter
Hope from deep blue comes up to muddy water

Long since smitten and never bitten
It's only a lark some friendly shark
Back on the coast friends raise a toast to a 50 mile boast
The talk of the town never hears the sound silently drown

Into the deep leaves nary a peep
As the ocean holds her promise to keep
Trade wind blows whisper vocation chose
Shark diver forever sleep

              Condition of Anonymity

I'll go out and land the biggest prize
Stake my ground to sweepstakes in your eyes
Unhappy players won't have a prayer
My biggest move is about to happen here

We'll make the grade we'll have a parade
They say it won't last but we'll make the biggest splash
And with arms like these a reported guarantee
Of course I'm speaking only on condition of anonymity

You might think that this deal is a lot
But I already know the player is hot
I'll defend my decision even on bended knee
Speaking only on condition of anonymity

I've been tied for the lead in number of gaffs
But my availability is not a matter of laughs
People will say that remains to be seen
They say we'll finish last we're so green

When I'm with you I'm no loser it's true
You seal the deal you know what to do
An unbeaten run next to none is ours you'll see
Of course I'm only speaking on condition of anonymity

Environment Architecture

Aloha,

This photo was shot on a sunny day in late morning. Notice the contrast between the cool shelter of the building and the exposure of the flowers to the bright sky. Writers can also "show" contrast in a lyric, phrase, or genre. Let's try that today.
                                                                                                                                     Enjoy!

 Nature's Hug

Her hug is a gift who's arms we depend
Through the march of time a constant friend
So steady her gift and so carefully planned
Will ever her berth go unmanned?

She started with love then reinvention
Ends with our final deficit attention
The time has come now we know
Nature is a hug given us slow

We still feel lucky with the love she brings
Even now through the thick and the thin of things
She's a hard act to follow even now through the haze
Nature's hug our first gift will last through our days

Genre: Nouveau Hawaiian

                  The Reef is Chief

Hawaiians of old so proud and so bold
Did life really end was someone so cold
Hawaiians of old have your stories been told?
Relics sold like some curio

Hawaiians of old with stories of gold
The reef is your chief with life it can hold
Alone by its hand from the waves to the land
Hawaiians of old the reef  is in command

The reef is the chief the maker of sand
Life of the land held in its hand
The reef is the chief who stands with such pride
Stems the tide holding the fury inside

Hawaiians of old, of faithful belief
Your story is gold the reef is the chief

                           Let Me Play

Feel the need feel the heat
Make me a possibility
Wanna go go get some
I'm not just any gun
Take a possession make concessions
Log on get it on
Don't mess with a goodbye kiss
Just let me play

I'm a speed burner a real head turner
A yardage churner I will move your chain
Prototypical tickle popsicle
Coin drain grease my brain end this pain
Just let me play

The wind at your back on a firm fairway
On a good day I make 'em pay
Don't need no rogue trainer that's a no brainer
I do four point three that makes me a possibility
Just let me play

Waikiki Flower

Aloha,
Today we will continue to explore different genres of lyric writing. The "writer's life" usually requires some form of inspiration. This can be anything from a beautiful memory to a photo. I shot this photo with Waikiki Beach only a few feet away. The flower adds beauty to a beautiful setting. It is the inspiration for today's lyricism.                                    Enjoy!

Genre: Environmental Poetry

                    Scant Remains

So easy to go out lose your fire
Find nothing left only burnt desire
To leave so much doubt, doesn't take brains
When everyone runs out scant remains

If the claw of silence becomes complete
The laws of science still compete
Falling so far with yet to feel any pains
When everyone runs out scant remains

Remembered beginnings have no end in sight
As conjured collections take fearless flight
Will we look back in wonder the loss and the gains?
When everyone runs out scant remains

                       Hot Cool Cat

A hot light overhead cool one made a stand
Made me part of her natural plan
Always calling me her hot cool cat
Who doesn't love that?

She takes me to parties and just likes to sit
Makin' me part of her personal kit
Her friends all throw me the welcome mat
Who doesn't love that?

Tell me now who doesn't love that
A tap on the head and a pat on the back
With a kiss and a hug I hang my hat
Who doesn't love that?

Some jealous few call me lazy
Just as soon see me pushing up daisy
But she stays by my side always chewing the fat
Who doesn't love that?

Guitar Review

Aloha,
I hope you have had a chance to practice guitar lessons #1,#2, and #3. Here is a REVIEW of the important points:

     1)   Place your left-hand fingers exactly as shown on Video #1 to make your Fmajor7 chord.

     2)   Place your right-hand fingers so each finger has its own string to play.

     3)   Create a new chord (D minor) by using one finger (pinky) of your left hand.

These are the main points of guitar lessons #1,#2, and #3. View the videos again to be sure your fingerings are correct up to this point. This is important for upcoming lessons. Ok?     Enjoy!

 Turn the Tide

Soaring music to you is the great panorama
Makes you a child in a Christmas banana pajama
You sing your songs of Nature's pride
One voice and those eyes turn the tide

Once upon the world you share of yourself
Appearing even now to care without stealth
Those little songs stay in your heart you cool it down
Turn it around get on the ground

Now fast-forward mode carries the load
As the world hunkers down two by two
Ask each other sister and brother
Will we forever see green and blue?

Earthly bound seeking our found
Hoping never to turn away
Standing still now with one hand on the plow
And a plan for another day

Should we still we choose up sides
Even as new needs arrive?
With one voice and those eyes
Turn the tide

                          Little Pup

So slowly we go to a place in your heart
My only hope is my pride. Can it play smart?
If it starts jumping around or starts acting up
I'll take it back home like some little pup

So sweetly you share, your world with me
With a special touch and no entry fee
And about restless hearts, you must already have known
How they ramble and chase with no chance of a home

Like a man's best friend all through the years
You followed my heart into so many tears
Just a faithful companion doing its part
Never left me standing where most men start

When I look back down there, it's still at my side
Something in me said keep it, I guess it's my pride
You took me by the heart, became my Lady Luck
Sent my pride running, like some little pup

Color Bloom

Aloha,

Writers try to be as colorful as possible, but sometimes it is just a matter of "timing." It is very important to keep a journal and write EVERYDAY so you can continually surprise yourself with little "discoveries." Then you will be pleasantly surprised when a piece of your writing comes into a full "color bloom," like a Bird of Paradise. I made my "discovery" of this little guy at just the right "time."         Enjoy!

                       The Heart of the View

The moment you soared you were one of the few
With a joy so contagious your smile into view
Clearly outrageous so much life left to do
You blast and you jump into the heart of the view

Restless hearts talk and promises before sailing the blue
So questless a start for a passionate few
Set sail keeping only uncharted water in view
Confiding in someone special like you

Out there in the heart of the view
Do your part see your way through
Wide worlds may wonder as you sail on the blue
Of heart's little thunder in the heart of the view

Down deep inside is your heart of a dream
That's the part of your story it's what makes you scream
It's the heart of the matter it's what makes you "you"
As you blast and you jump into the heart of the view

                         Just Now

A little lateral thinking, collateral drain
Couldn't we endure just a little more pain
Would you please leap, just a little sideways
A little outside of your, ingrained byways
As you pattern my image, spatter my spinach
Hey buddy does it really matter, my vintage?

Oh please don't simplify
I like those, complicated eyes
Someday I'll realize, how you...
Looked at me just now

There it is again, never knew where or when
But until then, I will endure and abide, somehow
Forever and a day, how you...
Looked at me just now

Surrealistic realism, bridges the schism
As you start to continue, you chisel my heart
I'll remember forever, and from now
When my last breath takes a bow, how you...
Looked at me just now

Hey buddy can you spare a dime?
Well OK maybe next time
Can you chime in later with some chow?
And then only then I may know, I'll make that show
On how you... looked at me, Just Now

                           Charm Yourself

So warm in your way, so charming your day
Are we really talking global?
No harm to say yes, they swarm I must confess
I must say, we do pay, day in and day out
What's that you say, expect and convey, a drought
Charm yourself out

Something out there, holds this thing together
So slight and fluffy, just like a feather
How is your father's father? And, what did Mother say?
Sooner or later, there's gonna' be love to pay
Nature will have her say, in this there can be no doubt, so
Charm yourself out

Comes a new day, let's all get together in our own way
By the way, how's the weather? Sonny, what's that you say?
Sunny and warm, that's what they say
The upcoming trend, just around the bend
Brings a new day, more on its way
Hey! I figured it out, here's what it's all about
Charm yourself out
