Flash fiction biologSciFi "The Outpost"

The Urge
Although she is within the boundary of being the best, Suzi is, in the final analyst view, first and foremost, a child, no more no less, with the mechanics of games and companions; the one without a full complement of coded message from two humans; the one that doesn't want to hear the sounds and feel the warmth of something that keeps it alive. Suzi, by algorithm, wants to learn the meaning of noises. She hates the act of physically speaking--so she  rarely does. She considers her code over-valued, at times, when it wants to teach her to speak; she prefers code that allows her to articulate a need.  There, where certain sounds bring her what she needs (maybe even improve those sounds) she will add value to her code, far away from the logic of her minders. Here is where she will finally attain true identity, here is where she gains a pure urge, the urge to want.
